DM1 - The Drum Machine App Reviews

Despite the title, I LOVE DM1. Its my go to for substantial rhythms and adds a level of integrity for my tracks. Ive been recently frustrated because of the iPad 2 fixes that ended up failing. Please fix! Im in need of beats for my tunes! I will add the fifth star when this is done. Thanks for a great music app. Update: as of April 30, 2015 - The app is up and running! 5 STARS!

I had DM1 on an old iPod and I had to get it for my new iPad. I liked it before, but I love it now with the bigger screen. So easy to use and sounds great. It has many export options and everything just works. My only request would be that the randomize function would randomize actual drum placement steps and not just the effects. Other than that, its great!

It is great but the fact that you cant save a beat and move onto the next pattern with a different type of beat with different instruments just pisses me off. It may be user error but I cant find anything to help me figure it out.

OK,Im on the second generation iPad mini with retina display 32gig model the fact that you guys have the user kit integrated with Dropbox is sweet,but.......it doesnt work at all...everything I try to load a sound from Dropbox I get an error message,please,please fix this than I can give this app the five stars it deserves.

Glad I can open the program again. Frustrated that the last three beats I made did not save when I reopened the program. I use it to setup sequences for the Roland TR-8, since it doesnt have the capabilities to save many sequences. I love the portability on the iPad. If it would get back to where it was automatic saving 5 stars for sure.

Kinda posting this review late since the April update, but after 2 weeks of banging beats in coffee shops, bus and light rail I’m here to say DM1 is back and working! At least for me on my iPad 3 64GB. Not sure if I need to upgrade to the newest iPad but for now DM1 is working fine for me :) Going forward I will not update this app ever again unless it’s truly necessary.

I want to give this app a 5-star rating. But I havent yet been able to use it. Wont load past the start screen and then just crashes. Pretty bummed about it.

Ive used this app for years, and though it is a bit resource heavy, it does the job really well. The FX are quite functional and the versatility that comes with changing individual instruments, sampling your own, FX automation, etc, keep me coming back to the app.

Bought this and then realized theres no ability to add triplets :(

5.1.1 actually seems worse than 5.1 for midi tempo sync, even though that was supposed to be "fixed" in this update. It is basically unusable as it is if you need it synced. Great drum machine...just needs this issue truly fixed for 4-5 star review.

Best Ive found - tons of options - great for old meets meets new - love to see: more drum machine presets and/or user set uploads - (I.e. electro harmonix sounds) - Rex-like loop stretch Nice to have a bit more options on the fx and how they insert, but there are plenty of work-arounds Again, fine as-is & stoopid kool for the $$$ - really - pony up already

My favorite drum app. Simple, sounds great, and loaded with effects to get the sound you want. Well worth the money for a beginner or a pro.

Giving it five stars because it is really a fantastic drum sequencer with lots of slick features. But please, dear developer, the midi sync implementation needs to be completely rewritten. Please check out SeekBeats for the tightest implementation Ive come across. It slaves to external Midi sync like a champ. If DM1 could do this, it would truly be perfect!!!! V5.0 I think the midi sync implementation is actually worse than 4.1, if thats even possible. V5.1 Now were getting somewhere. Big thanks for the efforts on external midi sync. All it really needs is a clock offset knob and it will be perfect. As is, it locks to external clock really well, no more drifting away... but it is ahead of the beat enough to be a problem. If I could dial in a fixed offset it would work perfect. V5.1.1 I take back my comments on midi sync for 5.1. Its still very unreliable. I wouldnt complain as much but SeekBeats is so good at external midi sync I just dont understand why dm1 cant nail it. V5.2 Wow, looks like they might have finally nailed the external midi sync issues. Still a little quirky but once it locks its pretty awesome. Been waiting a long time for that. Just about perfect now!!! So fun to play it in sync along with Ableton, Maschine and run it through audiobus to Turnado!!! Cheers for not giving up on this crucial feature!

Take the time to learn all the bells and whistles (no pun intended). You will be rewarded with songs, that are good enough to share and be proud of. I bought it a long time ago and they just keep making it better without begging for more money. Its a solid purchase.

A great app for composing drums and percussion. Huge collection of kits. No crashing here, but I havent tried to create a custom kit with imported samples, so I cant comment on that.

Sounding much better. Would love to see MIDI Learn across the whole app and not just the 9 pads. This would then allow fantastic control via Launch Control XL. Come on guys, youve got it on the FX app! Additional 11/17/15: Just started sequencing this through Genome. This completely opens up this app, and the perfect workaround for the limited DM1 sequencer.

We need more pads. 16 would be ideal. I play metal and one crash cymbal does NOT cut it!! Perhaps some decay control as well.

This is my first drum machine, it was hard to make it work at the beginning because I am not a drummer (I play guitar), but once I started to know it I can only say that this is all I need to practice and write songs along with my guitar. Big selection of acoustic electronic drums. GREAT APP.

The dm1 is the most powerful drum app on the iPad and the drag and drop timeline is amazing and should be the standard for ALL drum apps!It simply blows the doors off the competition and then some ! A song writers dream come true! Cant find a drummer? No Worries! Get the dm1 and save money on food and beer for the band!peace christo
